Logging on and Passwords
The Mac (Apple) stations and PC (Windows) stations require different passwords and user accounts to be set up. If you account seems to be inactive, follow these steps to get it re-activted:

1. Make sure you are eligible to use the lab as stated in the Policies section of this site.
2. Talk to the Proctor on duty, it is usually a simple matter of resetting a password.
3. If the proctor is busy helping somebody else, try to use a different platform for the time being.

Storing and Moving Media and Documents
Since the MML is set up with Mac and PC stations, occasionally one might wish to move a file from one platform to the other. Here are several ways to accomplish this:

UTWebspace - Everyone at UT is granted 70Mb of webspace that is accessible from any computer in the world with internet access. You use your same login information as you would your UT email and can move files without media intervention.

Transferrable Media - If you have many files or if Webspace is not enough space, then you should burn a CD. If you are going to be moving files back and forth between machines quite often, then you should invest in some CD-RWs. For more information on burning Data CD's, see the CD Tutorial.

MML Transfer - Each user account comes with limited storage space that is accessible from any machine per platform; in other words, if you save something on a Mac, then you will be able to retieve it from any Mac in the lab that you are required to log into. The PC's are the same way. However, If you wish to move things from a MAC to a PC, there is a serve that is set up for you to use that works similarly to the UTWebspace. This is most often used for files too big to fit on a CD, such as video files or audio files. Please consult a Proctor before using this method.

Using the Keyboards and Synthesizers
Each station is equiped with a MIDI keyboard and an Edirol Sound Canvass Synthesizer. If sound is not coming out of the headphones when you think it should be, check the following:

1. Some headphones have volume wheels on the headphones themselves, make sure they are turned up.
2. Make sure the volume on the Edirol is turned up.
3. On the Edirol, make sure the LINE IN and BYPASS buttons are lit up.
4. Ask a proctor for help.

Please be careful when trying to get sound out of an audio device as loud bursts of sound can cause hearing damage.
